Why this name?

Names for Christian movements and organization can sometimes be unhelpful since they create a feeling of “us” and them”. However, since names are useful for efficient communication, we decided to call what we do for “The Timothy Project”. We call this a “project” because our goal is not to create a big organizational overhead, but rather to be catalysts for processes that will lead to development and growth.

The Apostle Paul mentored the young man Timothy, and Timothy is a role model for many of the things we want to see:

  • He was part of the first ever missions team to Europe and also worked in Asia
  • He was multicultural: His father was Greek and his mother was Jewish
  • He was one of only two people in the NT who was called an evangelist
  • He had a passion for establishing the Kingdom of God in new cities through planting churches
  • He was young – but he worked very well with people from all generations
  • He still followed the Lord with all his heart when he grew older
  • His ministry was based on knowledge of the Scriptures and a life style matching this knowledge

We want The Timothy Project to be a place for young people to be trained and empowered to become a generation like Timothy: A generation who once again brings the Gospel to Europe and beyond. We also want to enable the older generation to bring their experiences, their wisdom and their resources to help and encourage this younger generation in their calling.
